Southern Bacon-Wrapped Shrimp
With a hint of sweetness and spice, the crispy bacon and succulent shrimp make for the ideal combination in these Southern Bacon-Wrapped Shrimp. They add a delicious touch to any Southern meal as an appetizer or side dish.
Ingredients:
- 12 large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 12 slices of bacon, cut in half
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 12 toothpicks, soaked in water
Instructions:
To make the spice mix, combine brown sugar, paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, black pepper, and cayenne pepper in a small bowl
Use a toothpick to secure each half-slice of bacon around the shrimp
Evenly distribute the spice mixture on top of the shrimp wrapped in bacon
Adjust the heat on your grill to medium-high about 375F or 190C
After the bacon is crispy and the shrimp turn pink, place the bacon-wrapped shrimp on the grill and cook for about two to three minutes on each side
Before serving, remove from the grill and allow to cool slightly
Serve your shrimp with a Southern bacon wrap as a snack or with other Southern-inspired dishes
